Aida Cabrera arrived in Windsor from the Philippines in 1988 with her husband and two young children. Despite her 13 years of professional tourism experience in the Philippines, Aida was forced to begin at an entry-level position.
During her first months in Windsor, Aida became involved with
WEST. After acting as a participant for almost two decades, Aida became a supporter, mentoring women seeking new careers and opportunities in Canada.
As the Manager of Administration with the City of Windsor, Aida has responsibilities within the areas of Parks and Facilities Operations, Recreation, and Licensing. In her role with the City of Windsor, Aida has supported the WEST program by sponsoring many new Canadians in the workplace environment.
Aida has actively assisted in training participants and has worked with them to develop skills and obtain work experience. Many of her protegees have moved into full-time positions with the City of Windsor and in other locations.
Aida has also served on the WEST Board of Directors and worked to increase the variety and number of job placements for visible minority women. She has been a volunteer with many community organizations and is also very active in the Filipino community.
In 1997, Aida was honored by the City of Windsor with the Frances T. Horvath Award, given to a person committed to the principles of equal opportunity.
