In 1995 when Maha Hakim joined WEST, one of the requirements for eligible participants was to pass a written test and an interview. Maha did not pass the test her first time but was able to join the program later. It was difficult for Maha, who said, "the first day we had an English test and I had no idea what was going on, I just sat down crying. I still remember that day."
After six moths of in-class training, Maha was placed at Forest Glade Fireplace as a Bookkeeper. Over the next two months, Maha was able to demonstrate her skills and the owner decided to keep her as part-time bookkeeper.
Maha remained a part-time bookkeeper with Forest Glade Fireplace, even when she was employed full-time elsewhere. In 1999, the company offered Maha the opportunity to maintain the books for both of their locations.
Maha writes: Today, I am working full-time with Forest Glade Fireplace - as is my husband, who I helped to find a new career working with natural gas and installing fireplaces."
WEST has touched not only the life of Maha but her family as well. Congratulations Maha, through you hard work and dedication, your journey has been one of success.
