Funded in part by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program, Cooking Together with Seniors aimed to foster social inclusion and community engagement among seniors. The project was designed to empower seniors to stay active, share cultural experiences, and build meaningful relationships through the universal language of food.
During the 2024–2025 program year, seniors from diverse backgrounds came together to participate in a series of culturally-themed cooking classes. These sessions were held in partnership with the Filipino, Polish, and Persian communities, offering participants a chance to explore new cuisines, learn traditional recipes, and exchange stories and traditions in a welcoming, hands-on environment.
Short videos captured throughout the year showcase the joy, connection, and learning that took place during these sessions. These highlights reflect the program’s success in promoting intergenerational knowledge-sharing and reducing isolation among older adults through the shared experience of cooking.
